MOSCOW, June 16 (RAPSI) – The Moscow City Court on Tuesday upheld the detention of Arstidas Tamosaitis, a Lithuanian citizen suspected of espionage in Russia, RAPSI reports from the courtroom.
On May 20, the court ordered the detention of Tamosaitis until July 20. He filed an appeal against the ruling.
An alleged spy was arrested in Moscow by the Federal Security Service (FSB) while getting a confidential document from an unidentified Russian national.
According to the FSB, the foreigner confessed that he is an officer of Lithuania's military intelligence.
Meanhwhile, a suspected Russian spy, born in 1977, was arrested in Lithuania on April 29 following an extensive counterespionage operation. On April 30, the Vilnius court approved the prosecutors’ request and issued a warrant for the three-month detention of the suspect.
According to the press release, the detainee was an employee of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). He allegedly carried out an intelligence operation aimed at infiltrating Lithuania’s government institutions, law-enforcement and intelligence services.
