MOSCOW, November 17 (RAPSI) - Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Nikolai Levichev has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to consider crimes committed by the Islamic State militants, RIA Novosti reported Tuesday.
The IS terrorists must be convicted by the International Criminal Court, Levichev said.
The Islamic State is currently one of the major threats to global security. Over three years, these terrorists have managed to seize large areas of Iraq and Syria. The organization is also attempting to spread its influence to North Africa – particularly, Libya. The area controlled by ISIS covers up to 90,000 square kilometers.
“We call on the Hague to find out not only militants and their trainers, but leaders of states who exploited the Islamic State as well. Their indirect involvement in the crash of Russia’s Airbus A321 in Egypt and terrorist attacks in Paris must be officially admitted and condemned by the ICC, the MP stated.
The biggest disaster in the history of Russian and Soviet aviation happened on October 31: Airbus A321 airliner of “Kogalymavia airlines, which was flying from Sharm el Sheikh to St. Petersburg crashed in the Sinai. All 224 people on board including seven crew members died in the crash. On Tuesday, the Federal Security Service (FSB) chief, Alexander Bortnikov, told President Vladimir Putin during the meeting that a terrorist attack was the cause of the plane crash.
Two weeks later, on November 13, several terrorist attacks were committed in Paris. Unknown assailants opened fire at a restaurant. Three explosions were detonated in the vicinity of the stadium "Stade de France", where a friendly game between football teams of France and Germany was played, a game which was attended by French President Francois Hollande. In addition, terrorists seized hostages at a rock concert in the "Bataklan" theater. According to the latest estimates, terrorists killed 129 people and injured more than 300.
