MOSCOW, April 28 (RAPSI) – The Moscow City Court has extended detention for Mukhamadyusup Ermatov, a defendant in a criminal case over the St. Petersburg metro terror attack until July 6, RAPSI correspondent reports from the courtroom.
The defendant’s lawyer sought to change the measure of restraint for the client. Ermatov himself stated that his health is deteriorating and that he experienced internal bleeding in the detention center.
Ermatov, charged with terrorism and illegal trafficking of explosives was arrested on May 11, 2017 and later put in detention. Investigators believe that he was related to alleged suicide bomber Akbarzhon Dzhalilov. The man has pleaded guilty in part.
In total, eleven people have been arrested and put in jail in St. Petersburg and Moscow on suspicion of involvement in organizing the terror attack.
On April 3, an unknown device exploded in a train between St. Petersburg metro stations Technological Institute and Sennaya Ploshchad. According to the most recent information, 16 people died in the blast including a suicide bomber, over 50 were wounded.
Investigation of the case is reported to be nearly complete.
