MOSCOW, June 19 (RAPSI) – A court in the city of Ulan Ude has nixed construction of tourist facilities in the water conservation zone of river Kika located in the central ecological zone of Lake Baikal, the Baikal transregional environmental prosecutor's office informs on its website.
The court has therefore granted an East Baikal interdistrict prosecutor's petition to declare approval of the construction given to a businessman by the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency’s regional directorate illegal.
The court held that buildings' construction in a water conservation zone contravenes the Water Code of Russia and Law on protection of Lake Baikal and is banned by the government’s decree of August 30, 2001 on prohibited practices in the central ecological zone of Baikal territory.
