MOSCOW, August 4 (RAPSI) – Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office to inspect the Baikal Territory for the presence of illegal environmental activities, the Kremlin website reports Friday.

BaikThere is a need to encourage business responsibility, in particular, to develop variants of co-financing of environmentally oriented projects, Putin said during the meeting on the ecological development of the Baikal Region. Special attention is to be paid to engineering of strict control systems, the President added.

Putin also ordered prosecutors to take appropriate measures if illegal and ecologically destructive activities are revealed.
