MOSCOW, January 23 – RAPSI. The Association of Russian Lawyers intends to support the initiative to create a body of supervising lawyers titled, “For Transparent Elections,” which will act during the March 4 presidential elections, Pavel Krashennikov, the association’s chairman and the head of the Duma Committee on Legislation, told RIA Novosti.
The association’s Coordination Council of Young Lawyers proposed the idea to professionally assess the elections. The lawyers are summoning thousands of skilled lawyers to act as supervisors on a voluntarily and impartial basis.
After United Russia gained the majority of seats in the December State Duma elections, numerous rallies were held across the country. Participants said a number of violations were made and called for new elections and the firing of Central Election Commission head Vladimir Churov.
