MOSCOW, December 18 - RAPSI. The State Duma Committee is drafting amendments to the regulations on food products banning the sale of energy drinks and canned alcoholic cocktails, Sergei Kalashnikov, the initiative's author and head of the committee, told RIA Novosti on Monday.
There are several regional initiatives pending at the State Duma which propose banning alcoholic energy drinks, as well as prohibiting the sale of all energy drinks to minors.
"We propose compiling a list of such drinks and adopting a special set of regulations for them. If they do not correspond to the food safety standards, such drinks should be removed from the market," Kalashnikov said.
He believes that energy drinks, which contain harmful chemical or biological substances, may also be banned.
Kalashnikov said that such a bill has yet to be drafted.
"We will hold parliamentary hearings devoted to the issue in February," he said.
The MP does not rule out that the amendments regulating food security issues and prohibiting the sale of energy drinks and alcoholic cocktails may be approved by the State Duma in the spring session.
