KIEV, April 1 (RAPSI) – Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday adopted a resolution for the immediate disarmament of all illegal militias. The resolution was approved by 256 lawmakers with 220 passing minimum required.
“In view of the extreme social and political climate in the country, rise of crime and systematic provocations carried out by foreign citizens in Sout East Ukraine and Kiev, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada rules the Interior Ministry and Security Service to disarm all illegal militias,” the resolution reads.
Earlier, a representative of the radical nationalist movement Right Sector, opened fire and wounded three people in downtown Kiev. Right Sector refused to put down their weapons during the police operation on voluntary disarmament.
Around 2,000 supporters of the Right Sector encircled and threatened to storm the country's parliament last Thursday night.
They demanded the country's interior minister stand trial for the killing of notorious right-wing militant Olexander Muzychko, also known as Sashko Bilyi, who was wanted for war crimes committed in Russia's Chechnya and died on last Monday in a shootout with police.
