MOSCOW, November 16 - RAPSI. Two years after the death of Sergei Magnitsky, a lawyer for Hermitage Capital Fund , investigators completed the case against two doctors accused of Magnitsky's death in prison. Investigators do not rule out the possibility that new suspects may appear.
Magnitsky, who was charged with corporate tax evasion, died in an investigative isolation ward in November 2009. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, his death was caused by cardiovascular insufficiency.
Magnitsky's death evoked a major public outcry. His death also resulted in large-scale changes in the country's penal system.
Amendments to legislation have established more than 20 serious diseases which allow suspects ill with them to be released from detention centers. The Russian government approved the list in January 2011.
Those human rights activists polled by RIA Novosti maintain that, in fact, the amendments do not work. The convicts who suffer from such diseases remain behind bars.
