KRASNOYARSK, January 14 - RAPSI. Criminal proceedings have been launched against Siberian hacker on charges of having committed cyber attacks aimed at Russian President Vladimir Putin's website, the local Federal Security Service (FSB, successor organization of the KGB) branch for the Krasnoyarsk Territory reported on Monday.
The Federal Security Service reported that a 30-year-old Krasnoyarsk resident blocked the president's website to support the opposition rally "March of Millions" using computer programs specially designed for blocking computer data without authorization.
"The defendant does not plead guilty. He told investigators that he did not know the program could be harmful and can block websites. But the investigators found that the defendant consciously used the program to unleash a cyber attack against the president's website," the service's report reads.
The suspect faces up to four years in prison.
Another Krasnoyarsk resident was accused of similar crimes last June - a 19-year-old student allegedly attacked the governmental and the presidential websites on May 6 and May 7, 2012 after watching a video by the infamous hacker group Anonymous.
Anonymous gained international notoriety in late 2010 when it organized a series of DDoS-attacks on the websites of companies and organizations which were anti-WikiLeaks.
In February 2012, Anonymous attacked the websites of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
