Kezerashvili was defense minster during the Russian-Georgian conflict in 2008.
After the opposition party Georgian dream swept the parliamentary elections on October 1, 2012, a number of former state officials – members of presidential party United National Movement faced criminal prosecution.
The United National Movement which had ruled Georgia since the Rose Revolution in 2003 and is led by President Mikheil Saakashvili, repeatedly accused the new administration of politcal persecution. The Georgian dream coalition, led by the current Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, denies those allegations and calls the situation a “reinstatement of justice”.
