KIEV, July 25 (RAPSI) – A Ukrainian court has ruled that four Russian TV channels, including RTR-Planeta, NTV Mir, Russia 24 and TV Center-International, must be banned in Ukraine, the press office of Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting announced Friday.
Four Russian TV channels were suspended in Ukraine on March 25, including: Channel One. Global Network, RTR-Planeta, Russia 24, and NTV Mir.
In late April, Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting asked the court to declare the channels’ programs conflicting with the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and a law of Ukraine.
In June, Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting filed a lawsuit in court seeking the suspension of the Russian TV Center-International channel in Ukraine.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry defined suspension of the channels as infringement upon freedom of the media. Director General of the Channel One Konstantin Ernst called on the Ukrainian authorities to revoke the decision conflicting with the rules of international law and subscribers’ interests.
