MOSCOW, August 19 (RAPSI) - YouTube video hosting service has restricted access to a video containing content insulting Russia’s state symbols, the press service of Russia’s communications watchdog Roskomnadzor reports Monday.
The watchdog has repeatedly requested Google to block the prohibited content. However, the company ignored the requests till now.
In mid-August, Russia’s communications agency also sent Google a request demanding to prevent advertising of unauthorized rallies on YouTube video hosting service belonging to the American corporation, a statement released by the watchdog reads.
According to Roskomnadzor, certain structures having YouTube channels purchase advertising tools such as push notifications from the video hosting to disseminate information on unauthorized public events including those aimed to abort federal and regional elections. The agency’s authorities noted in their letter that failure to take response measures would be recognized as interference in the sovereign internal affairs of the country, hostile actions and hindering a democratic choice in Russia. In such a case, Roskomnadzor reserves the right to an appropriate response, the document said.
