MOSCOW, June 21 (RAPSI) — Russia has lodged a strong protest with the European Union against a rail blockade imposed on the transit through Lithuania’s territory of a large range of goods between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of the territory of the Russian Federation, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement.

The EU ambassador to Moscow Markus Ederer was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday. The diplomate was told that the measures were inadmissible, had violated the relevant legal and political obligations of the EU and led to the escalation of tensions, the statement reads.

The Ministry also demanded the immediate lifting of these restrictions warning of further possible retaliatory steps.
