KAZAN, July 25 - RAPSI. A Kazan district court released from custody on Wednesday three more individuals detained on suspicion of having attempted to kill the Mufti of Tatarstan aNd having actually killed another religious leader, the court told RIA Novosti.
Earlier the court ordered the release from custody of Tatar track star Artyom Kalashov, who was arrested on the Saturday night on the same charges.
An investigator stated that materials of a radical nature were seized in Tatar and Arabic during a search of their homes. He also emphasized that the detainees are flight risks and may pressure the witnesses. Nevertheless, the court ruled that the arguments were not sufficiently convincing.
On Thursday last week, a car exploded in Kazan, injuring Mufti of Tatarstan Ildus Fayzov. On the same day, Spiritual Muslim Board of Tatarstan head Valiulla Yakupov was shot dead near his home. Two cases have been initiated on attempted murder and murder and consolidated into a single proceeding.
Both religious leaders were known for their crusade against extremism.
According to investigators, after Fayzov was elected Mufti, he assumed control of the funds of Idel-Khadzh, an organization in charge of sending Muslims to Mecca. Allegedly, he then had a conflict with the organization's management, who then threatened his life.
