BELGOROD, April 25 (RAPSI) - The public lawyer of Sergei Pomazun, who has been charged with killing six people and violently assaulting a police officer, does not plan to appeal the court order that will his client under arrest, the attorney told RIA Novosti on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Sverdlovsky District Court in Belgorod ordered Pomazun to be arrested for one month and 29 days.
The defendant has been provided with a public lawyer, Viktor Yeremeyev.
"I'm not going to appeal the ruling. If he (Pomazun) decides to appeal, I will have to support him as his defense lawyer," Yeremeyev said, adding that he has not spoken with his client since the hearing and Pomazun is presently in a pretrial detention facility.
Earlier, Pomazun, the "Belgorod shooter," pleaded not guilty and said he considers his arrest illegitimate and will not testify.
Last Monday, Pomazun, 31, opened fire in a weapons store in Narodny Boulevard in Belgorod in southern Russia, killing three people, and then shot another three people on the street outside. Five people died on the scene, including a 14-year-old girl. Another victim, a 16-year-old girl, died later in intensive care.
Pomazun was detained on Tuesday night when he attempted to flee the city on a freight train. He was identified and detained by the transport police. The suspect resisted arrest and wounded one of the officers in the process.
