MOSCOW, September 30 (RAPSI) – Russian programmer Dmitry Belorossov has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison by the U.S. court for online fraud, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.
Belorossov, 22, has admitted his participation in a cyber fraud criminal group. He has also admitted that he is the creator of the “Citadel” – a malware program responsible for infiltrating 11 millions of computers worldwide causing damages estimating $500mln. Belorossov has been arrested in Spain and extradited to USA because one of the infiltrated computers has been located in the state of Georgia.
Belorossov has also been sentenced to 3 years in probation and will have to pay $322k in damages.
