MOSCOW, March 25 (RAPSI) - Ukrainian nationalist Aleksandr Muzychko (alias Sasha Beliy), who has been placed on the international wanted list on suspicions of killing Russian servicemen, has been fatally shot, newspaper Ukrainska Pravda reports.
Muzychko was killed during a special operation carried out by the Ukrainian law enforcement officers with the aim of neutralizing an armed group in Ukraine's Rivne region, First Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Evdokimov said Tuesday.
Muzychko resisted arrest and was fatally shot.
Three other individuals were detained, and their AK-47 assault rifles and Makarov guns were seized. They were transported to Kiev for interrogation.
On March 7, Russian investigators filed a request with Interpol to issue a notice for the arrest of Muzychko.
“Muzychko brutally tortured and killed servicemen of Russian federal forces. He personally tortured and then murdered no less than 20 Russian prisoners of war, demanding the information he needed,” Investigative Committee Spokesman Vladimir Markin said.
The case was initiated following an investigation of a battle between militants and paratroopers during the Second Chechen War in 2000.
On March 12, a court in Yessentuki ordered Muzychko's arrest in absentia.
