BELGOROD, July 22 (RAPSI) – A woman widowed during a mass shooting in Russia’s Belgorod intends to demand  50 million rubles ($1,5 mln) in compensation for her husband’s demise .

On Monday, the Belgorod Regional Court began hearings of the deadly rampage, which was carried out in April 2013. Sergei Pomazun, popularly known as the Belgorod Shooter, is on trial for a series of crimes, including murder, and a potentially deadly assault on a police officer. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.

The victim’s relatives noted during the trial that the funeral expenses were covered by the city’s administration, and they will not file any material claims. However, the widow of one of the victim’s, who has three children to take care of, said that she will file a 50 mln ruble claim for moral damages.

On April 22, Pomazun opened fire in a weapons store killing three people, and then shot another three people on the street outside. Five people died on the scene, including a 14-year-old girl. Another victim, a 16-year-old girl, died later in intensive care.

On April 23, Pomazun was detained when he attempted to flee the city on a freight train. He was identified and detained by the transport police. The suspect resisted arrest, wounding one of the police officers in the process.
