MOSCOW, September 30 - RAPSI. The Prosecutor General's Office suspended placing a former prosecutor, allegedly involved in a high-profile casino case, on the wanted list, the prosecutor's office reported on Friday.
The Prosecutor General's Office requested Investigative Committee's head Alexander Bastrykin to eliminate violations committed by investigators. This is the second time the Prosecutor General's Office sent its request to the Investigative Committee since the first appeal was not granted.
RIA Novosti has yet to obtain comments from the Investigative Committee.
The high-profile Moscow region gambling scandal was uncovered several months ago. Businessman Ivan Nazarov arranged a network of illegal casinos across 15 towns in the region. The owners allegedly made from $5 to $10 million every month.
According to the Federal Security Service, several high-ranking prosecutors and Interior Ministry officials were engaged in the illegal gambling scheme.
Investigators charged officials with receiving bribes from $75,000 to $471,500 from Nazarov, who was arrested but later released under his own recognizance.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said in July that it learned from Interpol Russia that Ignatenko was put on the international wanted list. However, Interpol's press office told RIA Novosti the information was false.
